Imagine two students in university. They meet for the first time in the campus bookstore where he accurately sizes her up in a minute by simply looking at her timetable. He’s intrigued by her and she him. The attraction grows; they dance together for the first time at a party [it doesn’t matter whose, those details aren’t the ones they remember] and before they know it, one thing leads to another and they end up spending the night together. He’s expelled from Med School the next morning and never calls her, fearing they could never have a future; with no knowledge of this, she’s left thinking their one night meant nothing more to him than the physical. The timeline becomes a little vague here, she graduates second best of her class, becomes the first ever female Dean of Medicine; he gains a reputation for being a medical genius with an inability to listen to authority. When they next meet he is the patient and she his doctor. It is her idea to remove the infected muscle in his thigh and she lives with the guilt that she is - in part - responsible for the fact that he has to live the rest of his life out in constant pain, addicted to narcotics. [But she’d do it again she thinks, as long as he stays alive.] He gets fired from job after job and watches the people in his life, that he once loved, leave him to shoulder his burden alone. Then, not for the first or last time, she gives him a lifeline - this one in the form of a job. And so their relationship changes once more; she becomes his boss, he her employee and their story begins again. [Things were easier in the past; before the baggage, the scars, the beauty of opiates.]

There are so many reasons why House/Cuddy is my OTP. It goes so much further than their banter, their sexual tension, their complete disregard for personal space. It’s about always coming back to that one person, the one that has always been there and has never left [will never leave]. It’s about knowing another person so intimately just because you care enough to take the time to notice every single minute detail. It’s about history, missed oppurtunites, regrets and finally moving past your fears. They are so real and they just make you feel so much; the angst, the pain, the laughter and the tears. It’s their journey that makes them so incredibly unique and layered and this is why they will always stand apart from any other couple in my eyes.

I love you. I wish i didn’t. But i can’t help it.
